Some October work...

Here are some images of what I have been working on to do with maps and signs of Limerick. I focused alot on colour and line when doing these. I used a variety of mediums such as paint, ink, thread, paper, colouring pencils and wire. I haven't been updating this blog as much as i should be! But i plan on getting better... :)

For this image, i let watery red paint drip on the page in the form of a map of limerick. I then added in the names of the streets. I think this is one of the most effective images :)

New direction with work

At the moment, I am still continuing to work with maps and signs. After my progress review I felt slightly lost as I didn't feel I was going the right direction with my work. As I really enjoy doing painting and drawing, I wanted to bring more of that in to the project rather than just copying signs and maps. I arranged a tutorial with Des to help lead me in the right direction.
After a short talk I began to encorporate an old piece of work I had done with a 'no littering' sign into the new direction I was going. Still working with maps, I am now recording my journey from Parkville court in map form by taking some of the things I see on the way into the studio with me. This will create a more painterly and visual map rather than just focusing on lines.

My project on Urban Limerick

I am one month into my project on Limerick as an Urban area. To begin my project I began to focus on the things in Limerick that struck me as interesting and eye catching. These were mainly the bright road signs which were seen everywhere in the city. As well as this I began focusing on the map of limerick itself which also interested me. It was the vibrant colours and strong lines that caught my eye in doing this.
